Church of the Saviour

I was approached by the church to create a set of shirts for the Vacation Bible School camps for the summer. They gave me a thumbnail to work off of which featured a construction worker setting up the cross inside a crown.

I made several variations of the designs and showed them to the student ministry. They liked two of the designs and decided to use one for the student's shirts and a different one for the counselor's shirts.

The only stipulations on colors they had was that I couldn't use more than two for the design. I decided to go with yellow to emphasize the crown. I also used white to accent the text as well as the important design elements since it went well with the yellow and stood out against the dark colors of the shirts.

For deciding the shirt colors,  I prepared a few different examples for the counselors my favorite being the navy which is the one the interns picked as well. They liked the navy because it was easy to determine who was a counselor and looked more mature than a brighter color.

For the back of the shirt they only required the bible verse and the year and name of the church. I decided it looked a little blank so taking inspiration from the verse I made a symbolic graphic of heaven and they liked it. Unlike the fronts of the shirts the backs of both the student and counselor shirts were the same.

For the student's shirts I had fewer samples and went with either a maroon or purple. The purple was my favorite because it was more regal looking again going with the kingdom them and they are complimentary colors. In the end they picked the purple as the Maroon didn't come in enough child sizes for the students.
